# Your documents

Your plan tells you exactly what applies — this page covers how you actually produce it. Every document-type item on your plan opens onto its own page, where you draft the document in the built-in editor, pre-filled from that market's real template, and export it as a PDF when it's done. This is the Document Vault, and it's free like the rest of the platform.

Krono deliberately does not store files you already have. There is no upload: we generate documents and hand them to you, rather than taking custody of your technical file. Your test reports, drawings, and supporting evidence stay wherever you already keep them.

## Your plan's five steps

Every applicable document, test, and certification is grouped into five steps, in the order you'd actually work through them:

* **Learn to prepare** — items with step-by-step guidance available in our courses and books.
* **You prepare** — documents like a Declaration of Conformity or technical file that only you (or your consultant) can produce. This is where the Document Vault does its work.
* **Test & verify** — test reports and evidence you book with an accredited lab.
* **Certify & submit** — certificates or registrations submitted to and granted by the relevant authority.
* **Ongoing duties** — obligations you keep up with once you're in market, not one-time items.

## Drafting a document

Click into any document item on your plan and you land on its own page, where **Draft in editor** creates the document. Where a template exists for that document type — a Declaration of Conformity, a technical file section, and others across the nine markets we cover — the editor opens pre-filled with the right structure for your specific product and market, instead of a blank page.

The pre-filled content comes from your project's own traversal: the legislation that applies, the harmonised standards you're declaring against, and your company details. Anything we can't fill in for you is marked visibly — `[Fill in: authorised signatory name]` — rather than left as a silent gap. Nothing is AI-generated: the structure comes from the regulatory graph and the rest is your own writing, which matters for a document you're going to sign.

## Versions, drafts, and marking a document final

Every edit to a drafted document is kept as a version, so you can see how a document evolved and step back to an earlier version if you need to. A document starts as a draft; when you're satisfied with it, mark it **final** to lock in that version as the one that counts toward your plan's progress. You can always come back and draft a new version later — marking something final doesn't prevent further edits, it just records which version was the authoritative one at the time.

## Exporting the finished document

Once a document is marked final, export it as PDF or Markdown directly from its evidence page — this is the actual drafted document (a real Declaration of Conformity, a real technical file section), not the plan checklist. The plan itself is a separate export (PDF, Markdown, or DOCX) covering what applies and what's done.

## Sending a document for review

Once you mark a drafted document final, a workspace admin can approve it or request changes with a note. If changes are requested the document reopens for editing, so the loop closes properly rather than leaving you to start again. This is free, and it's separate from having a Krono compliance engineer review the document — see [services](/services).

## Learning to prepare the documents yourself

Our [courses](/courses) and [books](/books) teach you how to actually think through a technical file, a Declaration of Conformity, or a risk assessment — built from the same regulatory graph as CertifiOS, so the content lines up with what your plan told you applies. They're one-time purchases with lifetime access, not a subscription, and stand entirely apart from the Document Vault — you don't need a course to use the Vault, and vice versa. Related courses for a given market are also grouped into [bundles](/bundles) at a discount off buying them individually. If you'd rather not learn it at all, the [services page](/services) lists the engagements where we do the work instead. See [pricing](/pricing) for courses, books, and bundles.

## Want an expert to check your work?

If you'd rather have a human confirm you haven't missed anything, open your project's **Get expert help** tab, or the [services page](/services). A Compliance Assessment ($450) checks your documents and evidence against what the market requires, and its fee is credited toward a full engagement if you go ahead. Fixed price, agreed in writing before any work starts.
