## Applicable directives

LVD

### Low Voltage Directive

Cables rated for 50–1000V AC or 75–1500V DC

RoHS

### RoHS Directive

Cable materials and components restrict hazardous substances

EMC

### EMC Directive

Cables that can affect electromagnetic compatibility

## FAQs

### Do cable assemblies need CE marking?

Cables sold as standalone products need CE marking under LVD and RoHS. Cables integrated into equipment are covered by the equipment's certification. Specify whether cables are sold separately or as components.

### What about custom cable assemblies?

Custom cable assemblies made to customer specifications may have different requirements. If sold as a finished product, they need CE marking. If made as a component for integration, the final equipment manufacturer handles compliance.

### Are there specific cable standards?

Yes. Harmonised standards like EN 50525 cover cable requirements. Using these standards provides presumption of conformity. Verify which standards apply to your cable type and voltage rating.

### Do data cables need CE marking?

Data cables (USB, HDMI, Ethernet) sold as standalone products need CE marking. They typically fall under RoHS for materials and may need EMC assessment if they affect system EMC performance.
