This applies to everything from routers and switches to 5G equipment and IoT devices. Non-compliant equipment cannot be legally sold or operated in India. Use the TEC product categorization document or our readiness tool to confirm applicability. 02 ### Identify applicable Essential Requirements (ERs) TEC specifies Essential Requirements for each product category covering technical, safety, EMC, and security aspects. Download the relevant ER document from TEC website. 03 ### Get testing done at TEC-designated lab Products must be tested at TEC-designated Conformance Assessment Bodies (CABs) or recognized international labs. Testing covers all applicable ER parameters. 04 ### Submit MTCTE application through MTCTE portal Register on TEC's MTCTE portal, complete application form, upload test reports, ER compliance declaration, and technical documentation. Pay applicable fees. 05 ### TEC review and certificate issuance TEC reviews application and test reports for compliance with Essential Requirements. MTCTE (Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment) applies to telecom network equipment and ensures compliance with Indian telecom standards, interfaces, and Essential Requirements. WPC ETA (Equipment Type Approval) applies to radio frequency equipment and ensures compliance with spectrum regulations. Many products need both: a cellular router needs MTCTE for telecom interface compliance AND WPC ETA for RF compliance. ### Can I use international test reports for MTCTE? TEC accepts test reports from ILAC-accredited international labs for certain tests, provided they cover Indian Essential Requirements. However, some tests require India-specific parameters. TEC has Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with some countries. For best results, use TEC-designated CABs in India or recognized international CABs. Always verify report acceptability with TEC before submission. ### How long is MTCTE certificate valid? MTCTE certificate is valid for 5 years from date of issue. Renewal applications should be submitted 6 months before expiry. If product specifications change during the certificate validity period, you must inform TEC and may need to update the certificate. ### What happens if I sell telecom equipment without MTCTE? Selling telecom equipment covered under MTCTE without valid certification is prohibited under Indian Telegraph Act. Consequences: equipment seizure by customs or DoT, ban on sales, penalties, and potential criminal prosecution. Network operators are prohibited from connecting non-certified equipment to their networks. ### Do I need separate MTCTE for each product model? Yes, each distinct product model requires its own MTCTE certificate. However, product families with identical architecture and only cosmetic differences may be grouped under a single application with proper justification.
