# WPC ETA Documents and Test Reports

A complete WPC ETA application requires precise documentation including RF test reports, technical specifications, circuit diagrams, and labeling plans. Missing or inadequate documentation is the leading cause of ETA delays and rejections.

## RF test report requirements

### Frequency Range

**Requirement:** Operating frequencies within WPC-allocated bands; no out-of-band emissions

**Test Method:** Spectrum analyzer sweep; conducted and radiated

### Power Output (EIRP/ERP)

**Requirement:** Within specified limits for each frequency band

**Test Method:** Power measurement at max output setting

### Spurious Emissions

**Requirement:** Below specified limits at antenna terminal and radiated

**Test Method:** Conducted spurious; radiated spurious in anechoic chamber

### Spectrum Efficiency

**Requirement:** Occupied bandwidth, modulation characteristics per standard

**Test Method:** Modulation analysis; bandwidth measurement

### Duty Cycle

**Requirement:** For certain bands: maximum transmit duty cycle limits

**Test Method:** Time domain analysis of transmission pattern

## Application process and timeline

1

Ensure all test reports are valid and complete(Before application)

2

Prepare technical documentation package(1-2 weeks)

3

Register on Saral Sanchar portal and create application(Same day)

4

Upload all documents and pay fees(Same day)

5

WPC reviews application and documents(2-4 weeks)

6

Respond to queries if any(Within specified time)

7

ETA certificate issued upon approval(Total 4-8 weeks typical)

## Common rejection reasons

Test report from non-recognized laboratory

Frequency bands in test report don't match application

Power levels exceed WPC limits for claimed bands

Missing SAR report for body-worn device

Incomplete technical specifications

Label artwork doesn't show ETA number placement

Expired test reports (>1 year old)

Inconsistent information between documents

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I use CE/FCC RF test reports for WPC ETA?

Yes, if the test reports are from ILAC-accredited laboratories and cover Indian WPC requirements. However: Test frequencies must include Indian bands; power limits must be shown for Indian regulations; spurious emission limits should meet WPC specs. Some products may need supplemental India-specific testing. Always verify with your lab that they included WPC parameters.

### What is the validity period of RF test reports?

WPC typically accepts RF test reports within 1 year of the test date. Older reports may be rejected. If product design or firmware has changed since testing, new testing may be required. Maintain test report continuity for product variants.

### Do I need separate ETA for each product variant?

If variants have identical RF characteristics (same frequency bands, power levels, antenna, modulation), one ETA may cover multiple variants with clear documentation. If RF parameters differ (different bands, different power), separate ETA applications are required. Cosmetic variants (color, minor form factor) can typically share ETA.

### What if my product fails WPC testing?

If pre-submission testing shows non-compliance: modify product hardware/firmware to meet limits; retest at accredited lab; submit new test report. If WPC finds issues during review: they may request clarification or additional testing; worst case - application rejection requiring redesign.

### Is software-defined radio (SDR) treated differently?

Yes, SDR devices with programmable frequencies require additional documentation: SDR declaration stating frequency/power cannot exceed authorized limits via software; security measures preventing unauthorized modification; possibly additional testing. SDR adds complexity to ETA process.

**Disclaimer:** This guide reflects current WPC ETA documentation requirements under Indian Telegraph Act. Requirements and procedures are subject to WPC notifications. Always verify current requirements on Saral Sanchar portal.
