# UK Ecodesign: Energy Efficiency Requirements Brands Often Miss

The UK has its own Ecodesign regulations — separate from the EU's, with some divergences emerging. They set minimum energy performance requirements, standby and off-mode power limits, and information requirements for a wide range of products. Many companies selling into the UK are unaware they're in scope, or assume their EU compliance automatically covers them. It often doesn't.

## Transcript

### EU Ecodesign compliance doesn't automatically cover the UK

The UK kept the EU's Ecodesign rules at Brexit, but they're now separate UK law, and the UK can diverge. That means its own documentation and testing, covering categories many brands assume are exempt. If your product uses power, Ecodesign probably applies.

### Which products are covered and what's required

UK Ecodesign covers motors, transformers, appliances, lighting, displays, power supplies, and standby products. Most electronics face a standby power limit around one watt, plus off-mode limits. You'll need a UK-specific Declaration of Conformity, separate from any EU version.

### How to check if you're in scope

Search the UK's Ecodesign regulations index for your product type. If there's a matching statutory instrument, measure standby and off-mode power against its limits with a calibrated analyser. Document the results and update your UK DoC with the SI reference.
